Summary:

 

The Project Engineer is responsible for the coordination and delivery of all engineering services required for the Project.  This includes a functional support role to the construction / operations team on the Project.  The Project Engineer will ensure that engineering scope (drawings), specifications, bill of materials, quality control and general engineering coordination are available when required, in order to complete all aspects of the project on time, to a high quality and within budget.  

The scope is based upon the Project’s Work Breakdown Structures, with the Project Engineer developing and executing packages on site (mechanical, structural & civil, electrical & instrumentation, mining disciplines).  The Project Engineer has a direct responsibility for Scope of Work generation, with the package execution including the coordination and oversite of off-site fabrication activities, active quality management, and construction execution support. This will include interface with the engineering team, procurement team and construction team (self-performance and contracted scope).  


The Project Engineer is the gate keeper for change management and will be involved with change derived from engineering and in-field scope, working alongside the project services team.

Responsiblities:

 
•    Support the construction / operational team for surface and underground work.  This includes oversight of the engineering design progression, coordination of the procurement of all items relating to scope, ensuring the items are on site when required and that the teams are aligned with any quality control required during the construction phase.  
•    Involvement is required throughout the package lifecycle, in a cradle to grave arrangement. 


Engineering


•    Recommend design or method improvements in a continuous effort to improve safety and productivity.  This is complete via engineering interface meetings and in the reviewal of drawings.
•    Work with design engineers in the corporate offices, ensuring all construction drawings are received on time and review these drawings making any required changes.
•    Ensure that adequate measures are put in place to remedy any defects or deficiencies in engineering design.
•    Maintain, at site, a complete set of standards, specifications, and drawings to ensure designs and works are completed in line with industry and Project specific standards / regulations.


Procurement


•    Develop work packages to enable scope clarification and coordinate with procurement to support the tender-award process. Generate the scope of work and compile procurement packages (drawings, specifications, etc.).
•    Ensure packages are managed in a way to ensure the completion of high-quality works, that meet the Project’s budget and schedule.  This includes vendor / contractor interface management.
•    Provide schedule updates and ensure packages are on time.
•    Work closely with the Project Manager / Project Superintendent to ensure all requirements to execute the work are available and supported in a timely manner.
•    Coordinate multi-discipline efforts for timely preparation, evaluation, and recommendation of sub-contract packages, including direct responsibility for preparation of Scope of Work and other Tender Schedules.
•    Oversee change management and provide breakdowns of commercial financial changes, for approval by management.


Construction


•    Generate construction work packages, ensuring alignment of the project team and clear scope definition / requirements. 
•    Provide support in writing of risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) and the coordination with operational / construction team on safe and high-quality methodologies.
•    Provide support during construction / operations with technical issues and involvement of developing efficient and safe working procedures. 
•    Provide support during quality and commissioning phases of the package.


Other


•    Active role in safety management on site.
•    Provide input to weekly and monthly reports (as required).
•    Undertake personal development activities on a yearly basis.
•    Assist in the mentoring of junior team members.
•    Must be available to work overtime hours, as the Project requires.
•    Other related duties may be assigned.

 

Qualifications:

 

•    Experience working in the mining industry in a Project Engineering (or similar) role.
•    On-site experience in a construction / operational execution-based role.
•    Exceptional written and oral communication skills, including client / contractor management and interface.
•    Experience in schedule and budget oversight.
•    Demonstrated understanding of design engineering codes, technical standards and regulations relating to The Occupational Health and Safety Act, 1990 Regulation 854: Mines and Mining Plants.
•    (Desirable) Experience in shaft sinking projects.
•    (Desirable) Experience in EPC project.


Skills


•    Ability to work closely with the site engineering team and interface with the Project Manager.
•    Ability to work as part of a team, with strong interpersonal skills.
•    Ability to function with minimal supervision; self-derived works and development.
•    Ability to work well under pressure and adhere to tight deadlines.
•    Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
•    Ability to produce detailed reports covering inspection findings.
•    (Desirable) AutoCAD skills and experience with drawing generation.
•    (Desirable) Experience using planning software (Microsoft Project or Primavera P6).
