ABLE SEAMAN
Reports To: Bosun (if carried) or Chief Officer Location: Offshore DUTIES: 1 General vessel maintenance, including safe handling of tools and equipment for surface preparation and the application of paints and solvents.
2 Assisting in machinery spaces as required.
3 Maintenance of emergency equipment and assisting in the maintenance of lifesaving and firefighting equipment as directed by the Chief Officer.
4 Assisting in the launch, recovery and routine daily maintenance of rescue craft.
5 Undertaking duties of Helideck Attendant as directed
6 Assisting in all matters related to marine operations, including Watchkeeping duties as required.
7 Assisting the Construction Department if requested to do so by the Chief Officer.
8 Performing emergency duties in accordance with the vessel’s Muster List / Station Bill.
9 Ensuring that his daily activities and the activities of other crew members are carried out in a safe and healthy manner and that the impact of such activities on the environment is within acceptable limits.
Complete other duties and/or projects as required and assigned by management.
QUALIFICATIONS: Education: The AB Seamen shall be qualified in accordance with STCW 95 Regulation II/4.
Skills: Able to speak and understand English.
Special Requirements: Additional requirements as contained in the Qualifications and Training Matrix appropriate to each vessel.
Innovation: The AB has the authority to stop ANY activity on the grounds of immediate safety, health and environmental hazards.
Decision Making: The Able Seaman coordinates with other AB’s, crane operators, or any other personnel necessary for the safe and efficient operation of the vessel.
