The Scoop:

The Director of Product Design is responsible for the overall direction, requirements, design, UI/UX and CX of MedImpact’s digital products and properties. 

This individual will lead a team of requirements analysts, UI/UX/CX specialists, and product management staff that will work with appropriate internal and external teams to design and develop new products/services which includes product planning and execution throughout the product lifecycle (conception, definition, launch and post-launch). Gathering and prioritizing product requirements, defining product vision (being the product expert) and working closely with all relevant departments to ensure the success of the overall product model are among the duties included. This also includes ensuring that the product supports the company’s overall strategy and goals.

  • Lead a team of requirements analysts, UI/UX/CX specialists, and product management staff
  • Work directly with all relevant departments to ensure proper execution of the product vision
    • Using the Interdepartmental Needs List along with the Requirements Story and Product Work Flow ensure all departments have a clear understanding of the product vision
    • Work with all relevant departments to help them understand their level of involvement and necessary obligations as they relate to the new product.
    • Meet with and coalesce the executive team and organization’s product vision – translating them into meaningful products that provide seamless experiences for clients and consumers.
    • Influences the product execution by factoring in UI/UX/CX principles into product design – essentially translating product vision into experiences that are market feasible and best for consumers
  • Work directly with all relevant departments to ensure proper execution of the product vision
    • Using the Interdepartmental Needs List along with the Requirements Story and Product Work Flow ensure all departments have a clear understanding of the product vision
    • Work with all relevant departments to help them understand their level of involvement and necessary obligations as they relate to the new product
  • Follow product/service life cycle to ensure problems are solved in effective and customer friendly ways
    • Maintain a Product Grid as a tracking tool in order to keep a clear, current understanding of all customers and product details
    • Analyze and understand additional needs and how they inter-relate to develop product add-ons or solutions to repetitive requests or problems
  • Recognize deviations from product processes and recommend appropriate next steps
    • Stay abreast of all current products and processes by participation in weekly meetings
    • Meet regularly with primary department stakeholders
  • Ensure all required product documentation (development, implementation, marketing, post-launch) is completed
    • Business Opportunity Evaluation, Business Requirements, Marketing Plan, Requirements Story (subject to change and additions) to be written and used as a reference for internal and historical reference
  • Research, analyze and document the new process needs triggered by new or updated product/services
    • Work closely with relevant departments and Director of Operations to understand and document the need for new or updated processes
    • Use the New Process Template and create work flows to clearly document and manage employees whom these new processes affect
  • Ensure all product/services (both new and changes to existing) meet regulatory requirements
    • Responsible for working with Legal to ensure they have a clear understanding of the issues at hand and the necessary expectations
  • Make certain all aspects of the product/service meet all established QA requirements by active participation in the QA process

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent combination of education and work experience); Master’s or Ph.D. is preferred.  At least ten (10+) years’ experience in related areas along with five (5+) years’ prior management experience in building and managing high-performing teams.  Experience with Pharmaceutical and/or Health Care data, data structure and standards a plus.

Computer Skills

  • Broad understanding and practical application of architectural software technologies
  • Technology experience with Web technologies (J2EE and .Net), middleware and application servers
  • Solid working knowledge of current IT applications, databases, systems, networking, messaging, integration, interoperability and SDLC development methodologies
  • Advanced knowledge of MS/ Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint and Outlook to create complex documents, manage schedules, and analyze data. Experienced business user of multiple software applications/processing systems. Demonstrated proficiency of key internal business applications associated with the position within six (6) months of active employment in the role; such as MedOptimize and Golden 32

Other Skills and Abilities

Intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS/ Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint and Outlook to create complex documents, manage schedules, and analyze data. Experienced business user of multiple software applications/processing systems. Demonstrated proficiency of key internal business applications associated with the position within six (6) months of active employment in the role; such as MedOptimize and Golden 32.

Travel - This position requires domestic travel of up to 10% - 15% of the time.
