The Scoop:

The Contract Manager II position ensures MedImpact’s client, pharmacy and vendor contracts and addenda are legally completed, implemented, and maintained in accordance with company’s strict requirements. This position directly assists department leadership in the development and promotion of the overall vision, goals, objectives, and strategies for the Contract Management department. As an individual contributor the Contract Manager II handles the day-to-day department activities and continually monitors performance against set goals and metrics.

 

What You Get To Do:

  • Provides contract support to the department and internal Business Units within the company
  • Completes and negotiates new contracts, contract renewals, and addenda as needed with clients, pharmacies, and vendors as assigned
  • Analyzes Sales Optimization documentation to draft new client service agreements, including all financial and business provisions agreed to during the proposal process
  • Independently negotiates complex contractual arrangements: new agreements, renewal agreements, and contract amendments
  • Drafts, completes, and negotiates terms of new contracts, other contract forms (e.g., LOI, LOA, MOU, BAA, NDA) as needed with clients, pharmacies, and vendors as assigned
  • Evaluate contract language issues in proposals and provide contract support to MedImpact Proposal Managers
  • Manages the contract process from letter of intent to executed agreement as well as subsequent contract lifecycle management
  • Provide guidance to account executives and sales executives about contract process
  • Compile necessary documentation for review and approval of Senior Vice President, Account Management
  • Develops and maintains an understanding of the federal and state regulatory environment in which the Company operates to protect the Company from undue legal, financial and/or regulatory risk
  • Analyzes contracts and confers with the team and various department heads and subject matter experts to detect ambiguities, inaccurate statements, omission of essential terms, and conflict with possible legal and/or corporate policy prohibitions
  • Reviews revised contract language for all contracts, addenda, and other contract forms and recommends contract modifications as needed
  • Approves or rejects requests for deviations from contract specifications and delivery schedules within scope of responsibilities or escalates deviations for approval beyond scope of responsibility
  • Analyzes price proposals, financial reports, and other data to determine reasonableness/ acceptability of prices based on MedImpact’s “MSRP” document
  • Evaluates and monitors contract performance to determine necessity for amendments or extensions of contracts and compliance to contractual obligations
  • Develops and maintains an understanding of the operational details of the Company in a strategic and proactive manner in order to assist the Company with its relationship with its customers
  • Interfaces with regulatory authorities, as necessary
  • Functions as a mentor on guiding, training, and assisting Contract Interns, Contract Specialists, and Contract Managers on contract issues
  • Assists with the departments’ recruiting efforts, and helps to manage and retain the necessary resources to successfully function as part of a high performing, collegial team
  • Administers policies, business processes and quality standards; manages costs and expenditures within the department budget
  • Helps ensure that deliverables are on time, within budget, and meet the quality levels expected by the Company’s internal and external customers
  • Serves as business unit owner for certain contract template documents (i.e., BAA, cash card); ensures templates remain up to date

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no supervisory responsibilities; but helps provide guidance and mentoring to department intern roles (i.e., Contract Interns and Summer Interns).

 

Education and/or Experience

For consideration candidates will need:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university
  • Eight or more (8+) years related experience and/or training; contracting expertise, preferably in the healthcare and/or pharmacy arena, or equivalent combination of education and experience, is desirable
  • Previous experience with health plan contracting preferred

 

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have excellent knowledge of Microsoft Word especially track changes functionality. Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and relational databases is desirable.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

None currently required.

 

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Understanding of the managed healthcare industry preferred, including knowledge of ERISA, federal and state anti-kickback laws, and HIPAA privacy requirements
  • Demonstrated legal, regulatory, and financial analysis, negotiation, and closing skills for contracts
  • Working knowledge of PBM contract pricing and contract language
  • Demonstrated presentation and documentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to lead and contribute to a team effort
  • Strong sense of ethics and integrity

 

Travel

This position requires very little travel; however, attendance may be required at client or prospective client meetings and at various industry conferences.
