Purpose and Use:

Under general supervision, this position supports the functions of meter reading and field investigation by ensuring the accurate and timely processing of meter-reading information as well as processing Field Investigation Requests (FIRs). The position provides backup to Field Service Representatives in obtaining daily meter reads on routes as needed, as well as working closely with a variety of departments who require meter usage data.

Examples of Work Performed:

  • Monitors daily communication with all Advanced Meters.
  • Processes and validates the data transmitted from the Advanced Meters using Itron OpenWay, IEE, and MV90xi.
  • Prepares daily meter-reading routes, transfers the data recorded to the mainframe, and processes all related reports.
  • Handles sorting, initiating, executing, appointment scheduling, and review of results for FIRs.
  • Retrieves keys and maintains key records.
  • Initiates Service Request Orders to investigate automated meter reading equipment problems and other metering issues.
  • Assists with mobile meter data collection using drive-by and/or walk-by equipment as needed.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Typically evidenced by a high school diploma or its equivalent and one to two years of related experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Able to work across multiple computer systems and software programs.
  • Able to maintain and update computerized records and files.
  • Able to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Strong communication skills including the ability to handle internal communications across multiple departments and formats.
  • Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Able to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
  • Able to interpret maps.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong data-entry skills.
  • Able to maintain a valid Wisconsin driver's license in good standing as determined by the Company.

JOB LOCATION 

The position is hybrid, and office days are in downtown Madison, Wisconsin, where MGE is an active participant in community efforts to preserve the area's extraordinary quality of life.
