Able Body (AB) Seaman

Job Description

Primary Duties / Responsibilities:

  • General vessel maintenance, including safe handling of tools and equipment for surface preparation and the application of paints and solvents.
  • Assisting in machinery spaces as required.
  • Maintenance of emergency equipment and assisting in the maintenance of lifesaving and firefighting equipment as directed by the Chief Officer.
  • Assisting in the launch, recovery and routine daily maintenance of rescue craft.
  • Undertaking duties of Helideck Attendant as directed.
  • Assisting in all matters related to marine operations, including Watchkeeping duties as required.
  • Assisting the Construction Department if requested to do so by the Chief Officer.
  • Performing emergency duties in accordance with the vessel's Muster List / Station Bill.
  • Ensuring that his daily activities and the activities of other crew members are carried out in a safe and healthy manner and that the impact of such activities on the environment is within acceptable limits.
  • Complete other duties and/or projects as required and assigned by management.

Qualifications

Education / Training: The AB Seaman shall be qualified in accordance with STCW 95 Regulation 11/4.

Experience: Minimum 1 year experience as OS on a DP operated vessel.

Skills: Able to speak and understand English.

Special Requirements

  • Additional requirements are contained in the Qualifications and Training Matrix appropriate to each vessel.
  • The AB Seaman has the authority to stop ANY activity on the grounds of immediate safety, health and environmental hazards.

Decision Making: The Able Seaman co-ordinates with other AB's, crane operators or any other person necessary for the safe and efficient operation of the vessel.
