Engineering Intern – Distribution Asset Management

POSITION PURPOSE

The Engineering Intern – Distribution Asset Management will directly support the Engineering Department with electric power supply system planning work, programming, and data analysis. The ideal candidate will have strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills and be enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in Electrical and/or Computer Engineering.

WORK SCHEDULE

  • Interns will work full-time (40 hours/week) during the summer months, starting the end of May through early September on a hybrid basis with some remote capabilities
  • Preferred availability to work part-time (15-20 hours/week) during the fall and spring semesters with additional hybrid flexibility

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists engineers with engineering analysis of electric distribution system.
  • Performs power-flow software simulations (SynerGEE) to analyze system load, phase balance, voltage regulation, and fuse coordination.
  • Works with Oracle and SQL and uses Visual Studio (VB) to develop tools used by engineering.
  • Performs field inspections of electric facilities for planning or engineering as needed.
  • Works with engineers and technicians to update distribution system models as needed.
  • Supports Transformer Load Management (TLM) and Power Control (Demand Load Management).

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school degree or equivalent; must be enrolled in an accredited university or college program, preferred area of studies include Electrical and/or Computer Engineering.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Valid drivers’ license with good driving record.
  • Ability to work with computer models and relational data used in mapping and analysis and translate between computer models and drawings and diagrams.
  • Energetic and eager to tackle new projects and ideas
  • Strong Business acumen, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem solving, and critical thinking skills
  • Must be able to work effectively in a team environment
