Using molecular biology skills, the successful candidate will partner with computational biologists, genomic science experts, and computer specialists at NCBI to help build and maintain GenBank, one of the world's largest publicly available nucleotide sequence databases. Designed to provide and encourage access within the scientific community to the most up-to-date and comprehensive DNA sequence information, GenBank now contains more than 776 billion bases and 226 million sequences, and it continues to grow. With the training we provide using state-of-the-art custom software, the GenBank Biologist will: 

• Review genomic sequence and annotation submitted from researchers all over the world
• Evaluate nucleotide sequence submissions for biological integrity and accuracy
• Communicate extensively with submitters to resolve issues and concerns related to their sequence submission(s)
• Conduct database and administrative activities related to the maintenance of GenBank and related to NCBI Web resources

This position is particularly suitable for a molecular biologist just completing a postdoc. 

Requirements

• A Ph.D. in molecular biology or a related field
• Extensive sequence analysis and laboratory experience in molecular biology
• Aptitude for using DNA sequence analysis software and web-based resources
• Excellent organizational and verbal and written communication skills
• The ability to work as part of a team
• Strong desire to support publicly available scientific databases such as GenBank
• A detail-oriented outlook coupled with a love for puzzle and problem solving

This is a full-time position working on site at the NIH Campus in Bethesda, Maryland, but the new hire will initially telework. Currently, all Computercraft employees at NIH are teleworking full time to prevent the spread of coronavirus. Employees will return to onsite work as soon as it is deemed safe to do so.
