Be a Catalyst!  If you love inspiring curiosity for science in kids ages 4-12 and want to do it in an informal and fun environment then working at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science Camps may be for you!  Camp educators host and provide high quality, engaging and fun Museum camp programs.

The Denver Museum of Nature & Science (DMNS) is seeking Museum Educator Performers to join our amazing institution.  This is an exciting opportunity to play an integral part in the continued success of the Museum, with 400+ full-time and part-time employees and more than 1,800 volunteers.  We are building on our already solid foundation with a strong vision and solid strategy to recreate and redefine how we engage our community that loves, understands, and protects our natural world. 

The Denver Museum of Nature & Science is the Rocky Mountain region’s leading resource for informal science education. Located in the heart of Denver City Park, and neighbor to the Denver Zoo, the Museum offers a variety of exhibitions, programs, and activities that help Museum visitors experience the natural wonders of Colorado, Earth, and the universe. More than 300,000 students and teachers are served by Museum each year. The Museum houses nearly 1.5 million artifacts and specimens in its collections from around the world.

Final hires should be available for at least 8 weeks of the 10 week camp run, which covers June 7^th- August 13^th.  Onsite training will be in May. There are 16 openings for this position.

This is a seasonal position which ends on August 15, 2021.

 

  Essential duties:

• Delivers Early Childhood Education (ECE) and children’s programs on a variety of topics and through a range of formats which may include or combine: demonstration, dissection, virtual engagement, direct instruction, or theatrical performance.
• Prepares for program delivery by ensuring content is accurate, logistics are confirmed and set-up/break-down duties are completed. 
• Assumes an active role in creating a dynamic, visitor focused and inclusive experience for program participants.
• Impacts and inspires visitors/participants through skillful engagement and accomplished educational practice.
• Prioritizes time for frequent and consistent contact with colleagues and volunteers; in person, through email and meetings.

 

Minimum qualifications/Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.   
• 2 years’ experience in teaching/education or performance required.

• Interest in or knowledge of science and/or culture
• Demonstrated understanding of informal learning
• Ability to learn content quickly
• Time and classroom management, dynamic teaching methods/delivery, and problem solving.
• Excellent ability to be flexible and multi-task, enthusiasm for working with and engaging children, patience and empathy.
• An understanding of the day-to-day of Summer Camps, Day Camps, or childcare.
• Teaching degree is beneficial, not required.
