Sound good? (We think so, too!) Here’s what you would do:
- Operate programs adhering to ACA guidelines and YMCA guidelines, procedures, policies, safety standards, mission and philosophy
- Develop and maintain positive relationships and open communication with staff, parents, participants, and community agencies involved in camp programs
- Work jointly with the Program Director to train new camp staff in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures and ACA guidelines
- Assist the Program Director with staff and program evaluations
- Assist the Program Director in interviewing, reference checks, and hiring
- Provide leadership, recognition, support, and mentoring to all Unit Leaders and frontline staff
- Respond effectively and positively to parents
- Remain within Monthly budgeted amounts
- Assist in the planning, supervision and implementation of the program in accordance with the goals and policies of the YMCA
- Follow all emergency procedures appropriate to the YMCA and in conformity with the procedures adopted by the emergency service authorities to ensure the safety of all children
- Preserve the quality of supplies, equipment and materials
- Manage and visit camps daily to maintain operations including safety, programming, quality, and staffing
- Provide resources and new programming ideas for various on-site camps
- Provide support for working with children’s behaviors and interests
“OK, I’m sold!” What do I need to qualify?
- Minimum 21 years of age.
- Must have at least three years previous experience in youth programming
- Must have at least two years previous experience supervising staff
- Sincere interest in and ability to work with groups of campers ages 5-16, as well as parents and staff of diverse ethnic populations
- Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation
- Criminal record clearance by being fingerprinted prior to reporting for work and signing a statement regarding criminal convictions
- CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within 30 days of hire and must be from one of the following certifying organizations:
- American Red Cross
- American Heart Association
- American Safety & Health Institute
