Basic Assignment

Responsible for meeting the expectations and program conditions of the Youth Employment Program. Responsibilities include attending work readiness trainings, meeting with the Employment Specialist, and adhering to the work responsibilities and expectations set forth by the assigned worksite.

Essential Functions

  • Develop professional skills and gain valuable work experience
  • Comply with the contractual requirements of the Youth Employment Program and YMCA policies and procedures at all times 
  • Follow emergency procedures appropriately to ensure the safety of the participants and staff
  • Assist with Community outreach and trainings on the LGBTQ community.
  • Provide assertive outreach services within the LGBTQ community. 
  • Provide outreach services to youth while waiting for counseling services.
  • Communicate in a positive and effective manner with all community members and co-workers
  • Maintain engaging, professional relationships with participants.
  • Provide mentoring to youth.
  • Co-facilitate support groups centered on LGBTQ issues and awareness.
  • Welcome and support staff in the organization and assist them in accomplishing their services whenever applicable.
  • Participate in program planning meetings.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor at all times to ensure the YMCA image and mission statement are upheld
  • Maintain confidentiality and privacy standards of participant’s protected health information and other pertinent information and material, in accordance with agency and center policies, and applicable regulations and laws, including HIPAA.
  • Establish and maintain linkage relationships with agencies, organizations, civic and community groups.
  • Attend all required meetings and trainings
  • Refer and link participants to appropriate community resources 
  • Serve as participant advocate when navigating resources outside of the agency.
  • Work with team members to create innovative ways to meet goals and provide a high level of service that is engaging and meets the needs of the participants.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must meet eligibility requirements of program and be an active member of program
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • High school diploma preferred.
  • Lived experience identifying as LGBTQ+ and/or a person of color and have received behavioral health services preferred.
  • Ability to work in a very diverse setting with people of all backgrounds, culture and orientation.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with staff and community partners.
  • Must be able to work as part of a team.
  • Must be self-aware, flexible, adaptable and teachable.
  • Ability to work with confidential information.
  • Must have reliable transportation to travel throughout San Diego County
  • Ability to adequately observe participants activities, enforce safety regulations and apply appropriate policies and procedures.
  • Must possess the ability to lead and interact in group activities and perform related physical skills.
  • Licensing, state law and our funders require that applicants of critical positions within Community Support Services be fingerprinted, prior to reporting to work, and include subsequent arrest notifications
  • Current CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, and must be from one of the following certifying organizations: American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or American Safety and Health Institute
  • Position may require additional clearances in order to comply with all program, licensing, state law, and funding requirements:

o   Physical exam obtained prior to first day

o   Ability to comply with local and/or federal regulations regarding COVID-19 vaccination

o   Negative TB test results obtained within the past one year, prior to first day, and annually thereafter, as required 

o   Pass pre-employment drug testing prior to first day

o   Exclusion and Debarment checks prior to first day and monthly thereafter
