Qualifiactions

Education: High school graduate or GED

Experience: Must complete Laboratory training courses for phlebotomist or complete approved training course.

Licensure: Certification by a nationally recognized agency is desirable, but not required.

Language/Communication/Organizational Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules or procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively to customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

Work Environment: The employee is regularly exposed to corrosive chemicals, infectious agents, handling glassware, needles and handling unpleasant specimens such as stool or urine. Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock and risk of radiation. The following tasks are routinely performed that involve possible contact with blood and other body fluids: Clean-up of Contaminated Area, Handling Waste, Specimen Accessioning, Specimen Collection, Specimen Handling/Transport, Specimen Shipping, Venipuncture, Skin Puncture, Making Blood Smears. The noise level is usually moderate.

Physical Demands: The employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time; stoop; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently has to use a computer keyboard. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25-lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
