BASIC PURPOSE:  The staff Speech-Language Pathologist functions under the general supervision of the Director of Rehabilitation Services, Inpatient and / or Outpatient.  The staff Speech-Language Pathologist assumes responsibility and accountability for a designated group of patients and provides speech and language therapy evaluations, modalities and treatments in accordance with established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, maintaining the highest degree of quality patient care.   

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EducationMust be a graduate of or have a certificate from an American Speech Language and Hearing Association-approved school of Speech-Language Pathology; Must have current CPR certification.

Licensure:  Must have or be eligible for Mississippi state licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist per state law.

Experience:  Preferred minimum of two (2) years clinical experience

Reasoning Ability: 

  1. Must be able to apply the theory of Speech Therapy.
  2. Must be able to perform technical procedures.
  3. Must be able to instill confidence in patients, physicians, and personnel.
  4. Must be able to determine proper procedures and methods and evaluate results.
  5. Must be able to make decisions on his / her own.
  6. Must have the ability to adapt to emergency situations.
  7. Must be alert to changes in a patient’s condition.
  8. Must be alert to all activities of the department.
  9. Must maintain a high degree of accuracy in carrying out prescriptions, receiving and translating information, and charting and reporting.
  10. Must have the ability and competency to operate the equipment used in the position.
