About the Position

We are looking for a Senior Systems Administrator to join our Information Technology Team. The Senior Systems Administrator will hold primary responsibility for server administration, troubleshooting and resolving problems, and providing guidance to ensure maximum efficiency and to minimize user downtime. In this unique hands-on role, you will also have opportunities to work in other areas of the department to help support the business, taking on a variety of projects.

The position is based in our Acton, MA office.


  • Responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems, servers, and virtualization platforms
  • Install and upgrade computer components and software, manage virtual servers, and integrate automation processes
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software errors by running diagnostics, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing problems, and assessing impact of issues to the appropriate business units
  • Provide documentation and technical specifications to IT staff for planning and implementing new or upgrades of IT infrastructure
  • Perform or delegate regular backup operations and implement appropriate processes for data protection, disaster recovery, and failover procedures
  • Lead second tier desktop and helpdesk support efforts, making sure all desktop applications, workstations, and related equipment problems are resolved in a timely manner with limited disruptions
  • Responsible for capacity, storage planning, and performance monitoring.
  • Adheres to established company policy and standard operating procedures


  • 5+ years of database, network administration, or system administration experience
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to listen, follow up, attention to detail, and accomplish desired results verbally and/or in written form to appropriately document issues
  • System administration experience and IT certifications in Linux, Microsoft, or other network related fields are a plus
  • Experience managing complex hybrid infrastructures including virtualization, and public cloud
  • Strong knowledge of systems and networking software, hardware, and networking protocols
  • Experience with scripting and automation tools
  • A proven track record of developing and implementing IT strategy and plans
  • Strong knowledge of implementing and effectively developing helpdesk and IT operations best practices, including expert knowledge of security, storage, data protection, and disaster recovery protocols
  • Strong troubleshooting skills
  • Strong analytical and quantitative abilities
  • Ability to work flexible hours, days, and shifts
  • Ability to learn quickly and work independently with or without direct supervision
  • Ability to function effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to represent IT in a professional manner to clients


Associate or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, System Administration, or a closely related field, or equivalent experience required

Physical Demands

Requires light to medium work involving standing or walking much of the time, exerting up to 30 pounds of force on a regular basis and considerable skill, adeptness, and speed in the use of the fingers, hands, or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances including keying/typing.

Unavoidable Hazards

The position is exposed to the potential of electrical shock.

Salary:  Depending on qualifications and experience.
