The Vancouver Airport Authority has an opening for a permanent, full-time Power Engineer in the Facilities Maintenance Department. Reporting to the Manager, Facilities Maintenance, the successful candidate is responsible to ensure the heating and cooling plants at the YVR facility operates within the regulatory safety requirements. The role ensures the plant is functioning reliably and efficiently using software tools, specialized schooling and system knowledge. Interpreting complex control sequences, the role monitors and adjusts the system to ensure the terminal maintains predetermined set points.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing and monitoring the control system for any active alarms
  • Troubleshooting and making corrective actions as required
  • Determining the correct operating set points for both chillers and boilers, ensuring both are operating as planned
  • Making critical operating decisions to ensure the heating and cooling plant is operating efficiently, supplying all areas of the terminal
  • Inspecting domestic hot water boilers and solar systems to ensure all safety devices are working and that systems are working safely within design set points
  • Using control system, inspecting all air handling units to ensure they are working properly and meeting set point
  • Receiving and prioritizing all trouble calls from operations
  • Conducting preventive and corrective maintenance on all HVAC equipment

Key qualifications include:

  • Completion of Fourth Class Power Engineering Certificate with at least 5 years’ relevant experience working on many different systems (i.e., boilers, pumps, centrifugal chillers, air cooler chillers, fans, fan coils, controls and controllers, geo thermal systems, solar systems, ground water well field and heat exchangers)
  • Demonstrated experience operating and maintaining HVAC systems
  • Mechanically inclined; familiarity with electrical equipment and wiring, as well as controls (including how they operate and how to calibrate them)
  • Ability to read and understand complex computer programs
  • Ability to navigate through DDC systems
  • Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal
  • Valid BC driver’s license (Class 5 or better)

Shift work is required as the Maintenance Department operates on a 24-hour basis.
