We have a permanent, full-time opportunity for a Plumber in the Facilities Maintenance Department. Reporting to the Manager, Maintenance Services, the successful candidates are responsible for maintaining plumbing, sewage, fire protection, dyke pump stations, fire hydrants and back flow preventers throughout Sea Island. 

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Inspecting, repairing, and testing backflow assemblies
  • Preventative and corrective maintenance of sewer, storm and dyke pump stations
  • Responding to flooding: sewer/ storm backups, waterline/ water main breaks
  • Responding to hydronic leaks: chilled, heating or glycol systems
  • Responding to natural gas or diesel fuel system issues
  • Responding to fire suppression system issues
  • Testing, servicing and repair of fire hydrants
  • Biweekly testing and sampling of the Sea Island potable water system
  • Maintaining aircraft potable water stations
  • Maintenance of water feature pumps and plumbing systems
  • Working with other trades on the maintenance and repair of loading bridges, baggage systems, HVAC systems, etc.

Key qualifications include:

  • Five years’ recent, related experience, supplemented by a BC Trade Qualification as a Plumber/Gas fitter and a Cross Connection Control tester certification
  • Ability to interpret and apply the National Plumbing Code
  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Good communication skills with the ability to work in a team environment with other trades, as well as independently, with little supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to make safety a top priority
  • Valid BC driver’s license

Shift work is required as the Maintenance Department operates on a 24-hour basis.

This position is open to both Vancouver Airport Authority employees and external candidates. Previous job performance will be taken into consideration for all internal candidates that apply for this position.
