POSITION OVERVIEW
We are looking for motivated students with a strong interest in the mining industry. Our internship program is 10 weeks long, in which you will receive important industry training and get involved in meaningful real-world projects like planning a program, designing a process, or implementing technology. The culmination of your program will include an opportunity to present your work to management at ASARCO & Grupo Mexico.
ESSENTIAL FUNCITIONS
Assist in processing Daily SXEW samples
Free Acid Analysis
Chloride Analysis
Electrolyte titrations for Cu and acid
Dilution of SXEW samples for ICP analysis (for ICP trained technicians)
Fe2+ analysis
pH and ORP readings
Send out dailies report by 7am Mon-Fri and 9am on Saturday and Sunday
Process Blasthole Samples
Weigh all blasthole samples
Process four separate methods of Cu solubility
Total Copper
Acid Soluble Copper
Cyanide Soluble Copper
Quick Leach Test
Dilute all samples and prepare for ICP analysis by a trained Chemist/Chem Technician.
Process Copper Cathodes
Sulfur analysis by LECO
Lead analysis by DC-ARC
Log Keeping: There are various logbooks throughout the lab that have aligned spreadsheets in need of regular updating.
General Housekeeping
Preparing reagents
Keeping the lab clean and tidy
Washing centrifuge tubes and plant solution sample bottles daily
Maintaining supplies by reporting to Lab Chemist all inventory run outs and re-plenishing.
Assay lab projects as assigned.
Responsible for executing, supporting, and enforcing the Company's Environmental, Health and Safety programs as required by OIS policy, directives, and principles.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Excellent organizational and interpersonal abilities.
Time management skills in performing multiple projects with various team members.
Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively present findings and make recommendations.
Proficient in MineSight platform.
Proficient with Microsoft Office products.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university on a full-time basis.
Must be a Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or Graduate level.
Must be majoring in Mining, chemistry, or closely related discipline.
No previous experience required.
