JOB SUMMARY:

The mission of the Student Counseling Center (SCC) is consistent with Adelphi’s commitment to developing the whole person. Its core purpose is to support our student’s overall well-being using affirming, accessible, culturally-congruent clinical and outreach services so they may achieve academic prosperity.

This licensed hourly counselor position will provide counseling and psychological services to Adelphi University students. The counselor will also participate in other aspects of the SCC mission as assigned. Applicants with strong cultural competence expertise will be given extra consideration.

SALARY INFORMATION:

In compliance with New York’s Pay Transparency Act, the salary for this position is $45.00 - $48.00 per hour. Adelphi University considers factors such as departmental budgets, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. An annual base salary higher than the range may be warranted in circumstances where a candidate has demonstrable equivalent prior higher education experience at another University.

REPORTS TO: Director of Student Counseling Center

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  1. Provide culturally-congruent psychological services to a diverse college student population including ongoing individual and group counseling; crisis interventions; referrals to care; and clinical evaluations.
  2. Provide clinical consultation to students and their families, and to the campus community at large to promote mental health and well-being.
  3. Adhere to SCC standards regarding case management, documentation, and scope of practice.
  4. When assigned, contribute to the training of doctoral and graduate level trainees by providing clinical supervision. SIFI training available to social workers.
  5. Comply with the practices, protocols, and record keeping set forth by HIPAA and New York State Mental Hygiene Law.
  6. Stay current with the latest NY State and national legal and ethical policies for counselors and counseling centers.
  7. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  1. Experience providing short-term dynamic, solution focused and/or CBT therapy
  2. Experience working with college students preferred.
  3. Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  4. Strong ability to prioritize workload according to volume, urgency, etc.
  5. Strong interpersonal skills.
  6. Strong written and oral communication skills.

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Master’s degree and licensure to provide mental health treatment in New York State. Counseling, counseling psychology, social work or related field or Doctorate in Clinical or Counseling Psychology.
  2. At least four years’ of clinical experience, including at least one year of direct counseling at a college or community mental health facility.
  3. Valid New York State license to practice in your field
  4. Previous experience working with college population is strongly preferred.
