JOB SUMMARY:

The Director of the Student Counseling Center is responsible for the overall coordination and management of the day-to-day execution of clinical services, psycho-educational and clinical training programs, and crisis management in the student counseling center. The director provides leadership, evaluation, and administration for the functioning of the Student Counseling Center, and Psychiatric Services that provide accessible, comprehensive, and culturally responsive mental health services to promote the well-being of students.

SALARY INFORMATION:

In compliance with New York’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $110,000 - $115,000. Adelphi University considers factors such as departmental budgets, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. An annual base salary higher than the range may be warranted in circumstances where a candidate has demonstrable equivalent prior higher education experience at another University.

REPORTS TO: Executive Director of University Health and Wellness 

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  1. Oversee the daily management of the Student Counseling Center (including drug and alcohol counseling, and psychiatric services).

  2. Advise and consult with the University administration, faculty, and community regarding issues, trends, and innovative opportunities to meet campus counseling/mental health needs of students.

  3. Effectively establish and maintain cooperative and collaborative campus-wide relationships within a diverse, multicultural environment, and serve on various committees and task forces as needed.

  4. Conceptualize, design, and implement outreach preventative clinical programs and workshops for students, faculty, residence hall staff, and other college community groups.

  5. Coordinate, develop and deliver in-service clinical training workshops for clinical staff.

  6. Coordinate and supervise crisis intervention, emergency protocols, counseling services, and assessment.

  7. Respond to crisis situations for students in acute emotional distress and facilitate psychiatric hospital admissions of high-risk students.

  8. Develop, and implement culturally sensitive policies, and practices that address the unique mental health needs of diverse student populations, including student-athletes.

  9. Develop, implement, manage, and maintain the departmental budget, policies, procedures, office records, and statistics.

  10. Prepare and edit administrative reports, departmental brochures, advertising, web pages, and public relations material.

  11. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS: (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  1. Ability to use analytical problem-solving and organizational skills effectively, prioritize workload according to volume and urgency, and pay attention to detail.

  2. Demonstrated ability to manage complex clinical situations.

  3. Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), interpersonal skills and collaboration skills.

  4. Strong clinical skills.

  5. Strong evaluation, policy analysis, and program development skills.

  6. Strong computer skills using Windows, Microsoft Word and Excel.

  7. Knowledge of financial management principles including budget forecasting, cost analysis, and fiscal control.

  8. Knowledge of Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS), or other assessment processes guiding principles and standards for conducting comprehensive program development, review and evaluation is preferred.

  9. Personnel management and staff development skills.

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Doctorate in social work, counseling or clinical psychology from an APA-accredited program is preferred.

  2. Candidates who hold a doctorate in social work, counseling or clinical psychology from an APA-accredited program may be considered for a clinical faculty appointment.

  3. Clinical License to practice counseling in NYS is required.

  4. Minimum of five years of post-licensure work experience that includes at least two years in a progressively responsible administrative role is required.

  5. Experience providing strong leadership to a multidisciplinary staff and experience with professional standards and policy and procedures related to the delivery of clinical and access services is required.

  6. Higher education experience is required.

  7. Experience with relevant EMR software is required.

  8. Experience with Titanium Schedule is preferred.
