Dissertation Fellow (two positions)

JOB SUMMARY:

To prepare promising young scholars for teaching and research opportunities in liberal arts and sciences universities and to enrich its curricula and faculty, the College of Arts and Sciences at Adelphi University invites applications for its Dissertation Fellow positions for the 2026-27 academic year (August 24, 2026-Commencement 2027). The College expects to appoint two fellows for the 2026-27 academic year.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Fellows will teach one course in the fall semester and one course in the spring semester.

  2. Fellows will be mentored by senior faculty.

  3. Fellows are expected to participate in one official function per semester and partake in an exit-interview.

  4. Fellows who successfully obtain their Ph.D. and show an exemplary record of teaching, scholarship, and engagement throughout their fellowship may be extended for a second year based on mutual agreement or considered for eligible future tenure-track positions.  The College expects to appoint two fellows for the 2026-27 academic year.

SALARY INFORMATION:

Fellows will receive a $40,000 stipend, $5,000 in travel/professional development support, relocation reimbursement, office space, complimentary on-campus housing (single-occupancy apartment rooms in residential halls in exchange for some programming support), access to Adelphi’s employee benefits (see here) and access to Adelphi University libraries, exercise facilities, and performing arts events.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited program leading to a Ph.D. degree at a U.S. institution.

  2. Display evidence of superior academic achievement and a commitment to a career in teaching at the college or university level.

  3. Prior to August 1, 2026, potential fellows must be advanced to candidacy at their home institution, with an approved dissertation proposal.

  4. Preference will be given to candidates in the final year of dissertation writing.
