JOB SUMMARY:

The Founding Director of the Bhisé Center for Global Understanding, reporting to the Provost, will be a strategic thinker who will lead the University in establishing a permanent and sustainable infrastructure that focuses on addressing critical global issues and prepares the next generation of global thinkers and leaders.

 

An accomplished scholar in a related field, the Director will implement the Center’s vision, support its research agenda, partner with academic units on course offerings, build awareness across campus, and bring international recognition to the Center and University. The Center’s activities are focused on the following areas of commitment:

 

  1. Pathways to global reintegration
  2. Historical evidence and facts in an age of disinformation
  3. Women’s rights and empowerment
  4. Racism and disenfranchisement in society
  5. Pre-Mughal Indian classical dance and music

Funding is in place for three years, and the Director will be expected to lead efforts to secure future funding. Tenure will be considered for candidates with the appropriate credentials and subject to review and endorsement by the appropriate disciplinary faculty of the University.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  1. Collaboratively develop and implement a strategic vision for the Bhisé Center for Global Understanding in alignment with the university's mission and goals.
  2. Develop metrics to track Center progress toward goal attainment, and oversee related data collection.
  3. Work with academic programs across campus to identify and profile University course offerings that align with the Center’s mission and vision.
  4. Plan, lead, and facilitate faculty development in global educational experience(s) for students.
  5. Seek out qualified candidates for Academic Residencies and visiting positions.
  6. Lead and support faculty in building or furthering research agendas pertaining to critical global issues.
  7. Establish and maintain partnerships with international institutions, organizations, and stakeholders to enhance the global reach and impact of the center.
  8. Develop and implement communication strategies to promote global awareness and understanding on campus.
  9. Provide professional development opportunities for University staff, faculty, and students to enhance their global competencies.
  10. Provide visionary leadership with the ability to develop and communicate a strategic vision for the center.
  11. Oversee and coordinate artistic and intellectual engagement through a University lecture series and visiting artist program focused on global issues.
  12. Seek global internship opportunities for Adelphi students.
  13. Engage the broader community by representing the University at professional conferences, organization events, and related activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Doctorate or other equivalent terminal degree is required.
  2. Minimum of three to five years’ of experience in leadership roles related to international education, global affairs, or cultural exchange.
  3. Demonstrated success in program development, implementation, and assessment.
  4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  5. Strong cross-cultural sensitivity and awareness.
  6. Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks simultaneously.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  8. Established network within the international education community and a proven ability to build and maintain partnerships a plus.

SALARY RANGE

In compliance with New York’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $125,000 - $175,000. Adelphi University considers factors such as departmental budgets, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. An annual base salary higher than the range may be warranted in circumstances where a candidate has demonstrable equivalent prior higher education experience at another University.
