Assistant Professor – Cognitive Neuroscience

JOB SUMMARY:

 

The Gordon F. Derner School of Psychology seeks to enhance its roster of distinguished faculty through the addition of a colleague with a background in Cognitive Neuroscience, broadly defined. The successful candidate will play a significant role in supporting and continuing to grow our undergraduate neuroscience major.  Applicants for this tenure track Assistant Professor position must have a PhD by the time of appointment, which is anticipated to begin in the Fall of 2024. We are strongly committed to achieving excellence through cultural diversity.  We are thus seeking candidates who demonstrate a desire to teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students from diverse cultural backgrounds, and we encourage applications from candidates from underrepresented backgrounds.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Candidates will be expected to contribute primarily to our undergraduate neuroscience major, a joint venture between the Derner School of Psychology and the Department of Biology, through teaching, research, and service.
  2. Candidates will be expected to teach undergraduate courses including, but not necessarily limited to, cognitive neuroscience, cognitive psychology, and upper-level advanced topics neuroscience courses in the candidate’s specific area of expertise.
  3. Candidates may also be asked to teach graduate level courses in our clinical psychology Ph.D. program.
  4. Successful candidates will establish an active research program, have a strong interest and/or experience in initiating and guiding undergraduate student research, and an interest in interdisciplinary collaboration.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. All candidates with a Ph.D. in Cognitive Neuroscience or related disciplines conferred by no later than August 2024 will be considered.
  2. Priority will be given to individuals with teaching experience in any area of Neuroscience and to individuals whose research program demonstrates expertise in interdisciplinary approaches to studying cognitive, affective, and/or developmental processes.
  3. Competitive candidates will have research programs that complement current research interests in the department and background/experience in working with culturally diverse populations.
  4. Expertise with computational approaches to behavioral and neural data analysis (e.g., machine learning, computational modeling) is desirable, though not required.

SALARY INFORMATION:

In compliance with New York’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $80,000 - $83,000. Adelphi University considers factors such as departmental budgets, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. An annual base salary higher than the range may be warranted in circumstances where a candidate has demonstrable equivalent prior higher education experience at another University.
