Position Summary

ECODIT is seeking Junior Researchers globally to support strategy- and activity-level gender analyses to inform USAID Mission country strategies and activity design. The gender analyses will be conducted under the USAID Gender Leadership, Equity, and Advancement for Development (LEAD) Program. The Program provides technical assistance and forward-leading programmatic support, thought leadership, and knowledge dissemination in gender integration to USAID Missions and Bureaus across sectors and focus areas. LEAD also supports Operating Units (OUs) in the implementation of the 2018 Women’s Entrepreneurship and Economic Empowerment (WEEE) Act and USAID’s Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Policy (Gender Policy) as operationalized through Automated Directive System (ADS) 205. LEAD is managed by USAID’s Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Hub (GenDev).

 

The Junior Researcher will provide data collection and analysis support for an intersectional gender analysis, conducted in accordance with USAID’s 2023 Gender Policy and updated ADS 205. They will report to and work closely with the Team Leader, conducting an extensive literature review, supporting the facilitation of in-depth interviews and focus groups during data collection, and reviewing the final gender analysis report.

 

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables

The Junior Researcher will be responsible for the following deliverables:

 

  • Conduct an extensive literature review, to include USAID and third-party gender analyses, critical and feminist research papers, reports, policy documents, evaluations, and quantitative data sets.
  • Support primary data collection to address the information gaps from the literature review. This may involve in-depth interview, focus groups, and/or validation workshops. Participate in onboarding sessions and daily coding sessions with the research team.
  • Contribute to a 15-page gender analysis report and substantive annexes.
  • Adhere to ECODIT’s ethical, quality, and environmental policies.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

  1. Citizenship Requirement:
    • Must be a national of a country in Africa.
  2. Educational Background:
    • Possesses a Bachelor’s degree in social sciences or a related field such as gender and women’s studies, sociology, anthropology, development studies, geography, or environmental studies.
  3. Research Experience:
    • Demonstrated experience in conducting qualitative and/or quantitative research within Africa, specifically focusing on gender equality and women’s empowerment issues.
  4. Language Proficiency:
    • Proficient in English and fluent in relevant local language/s spoken in the region where research will be conducted in Africa.
  5. Communication Skills:
    • Exhibits excellent interpersonal and intercultural communication skills
