General Summary: 

The Registered Nurse role encompasses the general responsibilities of a Registered Nurse (RN) with a primary focus on ensuring safe, quality patient care. The RN engages in assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, directing, and appropriately delegating tasks. Specific duties involve effective communication with physicians and fellow nurses, administration of IVs and medications, and the use of medical equipment for vital sign monitoring. Additionally, the nurse actively participates in the assessment, development, and implementation of care plans, collaborates with the healthcare team, and acts as a patient advocate when necessary. Simultaneously, the RN demonstrates leadership in direct patient care for the Hip and Knee Arthroplasty population. This role requires specialized expertise in osteoarthritis, total joint replacement, and adherence to Orthopedic Society/Standards of Orthopedic Nursing practice. The RN adopts a proactive interdisciplinary approach, ensuring compliance with National Patient Safety Goals and serving as a recognized clinical resource. Responsibilities also extend to coordinating efforts among various departments, contributing to department and Health System quality metrics, and highlighting dedication to the overall advancement of the unit and organization.

 

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Graduate of accredited school of nursing required. 
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. 

License/Certifications:

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Heart Association 

Experience:

  • Three to five years of practical RN experience; outpatient experience preferred. 
  • One to two years of practical experience in a physician’s office or medical office setting preferred.
  • Two or more years of recent RN clinical Total Joint Nursing experience
  • Two or more years of recent Case Management experience. 

 

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: 

  • ·   Consistently applies scientific knowledge from social, biological, and physical sciences in the nursing process.
  • Formulates nursing diagnoses by observing the patient's physical condition and behavior, and interpreting information obtained from the client and the health team.
  • Collaborates with patients to formulate age-specific care plans, ensuring safety, comfort, hygiene, protection, and disease prevention and restorative measures.
  • Performs essential nursing skills, explaining health treatments to patients and families, and educating them on caring for health needs.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of care planning through observation, communication, and modification as needed based on signs, symptoms, and reactions to treatment.
  • Acts as the patient's advocate, initiating actions to improve healthcare and involving patients in informed decision-making.
  • Demonstrates leadership by supervising, directing, and delegating tasks to care team members based on legal scopes of practice and necessary preparation and capability.
  • Exhibits clinical expertise, serving as a clinical expert, role model, and resource to the team, patients, and families. May mentor and assist in the training and development of less experienced staff.
  • Records patient vital signs and medical information, orders medical diagnostic and clinical tests, and maintains professional accountability for nursing practice.
  • Assists in coordinating new patient referrals, conducting phone intake, triaging according to practice guidelines, and ensuring appropriate referrals.
  • Provides/coordinates ongoing care for established patients, managing overall care plans, nursing interventions, and interaction with third-party payors.
  • Offers counseling on patients/families' overall responses to potential or actual health problems.
  • Acts as a referral liaison, coordinating care among multiple healthcare providers and community agencies across various settings.
  • Develops more efficient procedures and policies to improve patient care flow, accessibility to services, and patient education, including symptom management and treatment.
  • Implements care management plans, optimizing modifiable risk factors before elective surgery, working closely with patients’ primary care physicians and other healthcare providers.
  • Enhances patient engagement and promotes appropriate expectations through shared decision-making tools, including decision and communication aids.

The compensation for this role listed on this posting is in compliance with applicable law.  The selected candidate’s compensation will be determined based on the individual’s skills, experience, internal/market equity factors, and qualifications.  This posted minimum and maximum range represents the minimum and maximum of what we reasonably expect to compensate for the position.  Furthermore, all compensation decisions are ultimately determined in accordance with our compensation philosophy.  Compensation for positions covered by collective bargaining agreements are governed by the agreements in the aforementioned document.
