What can you expect in this role?

Economical is currently preparing for a potential initial public offering as part of a demutualization process. This senior corporate lawyer will provide legal advice and take on execution accountabilities for those initiatives, working as a key member of the core project team. They will also provide counsel, guidance and execution support for the company’s M&A and corporate finance activities, corporate secretary function, public disclosure, securities and financial services regulatory projects, and corporate governance.  This role will be part of Economical’s legal team, report to the general counsel and be located in downtown Toronto, Ontario.  

This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to join Economical’s legal team and become involved in a pivotal transaction, with excellent opportunities for additional exposure and professional growth.

What do you bring to the role?

  • Minimum 6 years as a lawyer in a Canadian law firm or in the legal department of a publicly-traded Canadian company, with a significant portion (4+ years) focused primarily on securities work (capital markets), as well as M&A and corporate governance
  • Experience with regulated financial institutions is an advantage, but not essential
  • Outstanding presentation and communication skills
  • Superior planning, organization and coordination skills
  • Well-developed decision-making skills
  • Ability to perform well in a busy operation, exude confidence under pressure, meet tight deadlines and manage multiple and changing priorities
  • Exemplary professionalism and integrity

This role requires membership in the Law Society of Ontario in good standing, as well as successful clearance of a background check and disciplinary action check
