The General Counsel’s office is a critical component to managing the legal and administrative services of the Funds.  We are seeking a lawyer with experience in healthcare and contract law. Responsibilities may include assistance and support in the following:

  • Resolution of disputes with healthcare providers and members
  • Negotiation of contracts with healthcare providers, hospital systems, third-party administrators, network administrators, and Medicare Advantage partners
  • Counsel on healthcare legal issues involving provider contracts, provider relations, balance billing, care management, fraud and abuse in healthcare billing, No Surprises Act (CAA of 2021), Mental Health Parity, HIPAA, ERISA and the ACA
  • Representation on healthcare billing matters in state courts and independent dispute resolution proceedings
  • Resolution of Medicare secondary payer disputes
  • Review of relevant communications to healthcare providers for legal issues and accuracy
  • Other projects and responsibilities as assigned, including legal research and professional development



  • Juris Doctorate Degree; admitted to practice in New York State required, New Jersey a plus
  • Minimum of one (1)  year  job related experience required
  • Ability to respond timely to court deadlines, perform oral arguments at motion hearings, draft briefs for motion practice, draft position statements for dispute resolution conferences
  • Excellent writing and legal reasoning skills are essential
  • Ability to work well as part of a team and interact with non-legal operational staff
  • Ability to travel to courts in various counties, occasionally during the evening
  • Must meet performance standards including attendance and punctuality
  • Must be able to work with and communicate effectively with staff, trustees, and other professionals
  • Knowledge of relevant healthcare laws and ERISA a plus
