The 1199SEIU Training and Employment Funds (TEF) provide comprehensive training, education, and career pathways opportunities to unionized workers represented by 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East.  TEF is part of a family of 1199SEIU Funds, which provide health, pension, and quality of life benefits. We are among the largest labor-management funds in the nation, covering 400,000 members and their families.

 

The Training and Employment Funds offer an array of services to frontline healthcare workers including the opportunity to advance in healthcare occupations through college degrees and other types of education. TEF also runs an Employment Center through which 1199SEIU members, and the general public can obtain jobs in healthcare, joint labor and management work designed to improve workplace cohesion and health outcomes, and job security programs for laid-off 1199SEIU members.

 

If you’re ready for the brightest career future, join us in this excellent opportunity to showcase your talents.  We are currently seeking an experienced for Associate Director, Research, Policy, and Development in our Strategy and Innovation Department.

This position reports to the Director of Strategy and Innovation and is part of the TEF leadership team. The Associate Director will oversee 17 staff, conducting program evaluations, workforce development and healthcare industry-related research, and fund development, particularly in the area of grants.

 

Responsibilities

·        Initiate and oversee a long-range research, policy and development agenda for Training and Employment Fund (TEF) TEF;

·        Direct and lead a high performing team of research, policy and development staff to conduct program evaluation and research that provides strategic support to internal and external clients;

·        Provide vision and leadership to the team and ensure work of team aligns with overall organizational strategy;

·        Advise TEF Executive Director and leadership teams on research-informed emerging trends, innovations, and best practices in the health care industry, higher education and workforce development;

·        Serve as part of the extended leadership team on the Strategy & Innovation Division which provides strategic support across TEF;

·        Manage TEF’s Fund Development team, which works on grants development, grant writing, and one annual fundraiser;

·        Build organization-wide relationships to develop a keen understanding of the current work and programs, priority areas and needs, and provide support and guidance necessary to drive success as it relates to research, policy and fundraising;

·        Develop the capacity of TEF by supporting and leading the analysis and interpretation of qualitative and quantitative data, using robust methods for research and evaluation, and ensuring programs and continuous improvement initiatives are data driven;

·        Lead the planning and execution of efforts to secure grant and other funding to support the work of TEF;

·        Develop and deliver educational seminars, presentations, and workshops internally and at conferences and events;

·        Perform additional duties and projects as assigned by management.

 

Qualifications

 

·        Master’s Degree in health policy, education, research and evaluation, public health, or related area or equivalent work experience in related areas;

·        Minimum eight (8) years research/evaluation experience, including research protocol development, qualitative and quantitative data collection, analysis, and reporting experience;  experience in development fundraising and grant writing; four (4) years Project Management; and five (5) years supervisory experience required;

·        Excellent knowledge and experience in qualitative and quantitative data analysis, including narrative analysis to sort and organize data sets and thematic coding to organize themes and concepts for analytical interpretation, as well as the ability to interpret and synthesize data sets, draw inferences, arrive at conclusions and communicate those effectively. Ability to use regression analysis and other quantitative tools;

·        Experience connecting industry research and program evaluation to resource and fund development;

·        Excellent proficiency using computer systems and software such as MS Office Suites (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access), other databases and the internet to research and prepare materials. Experience with SPSS and/or other statistical analysis packages; 

·        Experience working with multiple stakeholders and managing complex political relationships; 

·        Knowledge of health care systems and policy, quality improvement, program evaluation and/or adult learning theory and labor/management initiatives required.
