The 1199SEIU Training and Employment Funds (TEF) provide comprehensive training, education, and career pathways opportunities to unionized workers represented by 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East. TEF is part o a family of 1199SEIU Funds, which provide health, pension, and quality of life benefits. We are among the largest labor-management funds in the nation, covering 400,000 members and their families.

The Training and Employment Funds offer an array of services to frontline healthcare workers including the opportunity to advance in healthcare occupations through college degrees and others types of education. TEF also runs an Employment Center through which 1199SEIU members, and the general public can obtain jobs in healthcare, joint labor and management work designed to improve workplace cohesion and health outcomes, and job security programs for laid-off 1199SEIU members.

Responsibilities

• Adult basic education instruction (remedial English, Math, Science, etc.) at various academic levels
• Assess student academic skill levels
• Assist students with troubleshooting online learning, digital literacy skills
• Maintain attendance and performance records
• Work alongside students to evaluate progress using self-assessment tools; refer students to education counseling as needed

Qualifications

• Required
  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field
  • Curriculum development experience
  • Experience teaching various academic levels
  • Knowledge of TABE  testing and other academic assessment tools and tests
• Preferred
  • Experience teaching adult learners
  • Strong digital literacy skills
• Work Expectations
  • Able to travel within downtown Syracuse and surrounding area
  • Ability to work various hours may be requested
  • Must meet performance standards including attendance and punctuality
  • Availability of 5-10 hours per week
