Job Summary

The successful applicant will create an automated workflow for processing fault displacement slip profiles using remote sensing methods. Additionally, the proposed research will also process slip profiles from the 2019 Ridgecrest, CA, and 2023 Pazarcık, Türkiye earthquakes. The 2023 Pazarcık dataset will be further enhanced with field-based observations, including displacement measurements and geophysical characterization, collected during a prior USGS/Caltech reconnaissance mission. Leveraging these datasets, the successful applicant will develop preliminary models to characterize fault zone width and along-strike displacement correlation. 

Essential Job Duties

  • Develop a robust, and fully automated tool for processing fault displacement slip profiles acquired by remote sensing methods
  • Synthesize and deliver flatfiles and shapefiles for the processed 2019 Ridgecrest, CA, and 2023 Pazarcık, Türkiye surface rupture datasets. The flatfiles will contain the output rupture metrics described in detail in Task 1 of Proposed Research Tasks. The Shapefiles will detail the location of all identified individual sub-ruptures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications

  • Mechanical engineering and computer science classes at Caltech

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in fieldwork, such as participating in Engineers Without Borders missions
  • Leadership skills

Hiring Range

$18.50 to $21.25 per hour

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
