JOB SUMMARY:

Provides a full range of audiological services, counseling, and (re)habilitative planning with families and other professionals. 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION

  • Doctor of Audiology preferred
  • Masters degree or equivalent acceptable.

EXPERIENCE

  • 2-3 years of progressively responsible position as an audiologist in an acute care hospital or health care setting preferred.

PREREQUISITE SKILLS

  • Knowledge of all aspects of audiology, learning disabilities and non-verbal communication systems.
  • Knowledge of laws governing the profession.
  • Knowledge of normal human development.
  • Ability to develop, research, write and present instructive information to both medical and public groups.
  • Ability to attain patient rapport, to interview in an appropriate manner, obtain accurate history, counsel non-judgmentally, provide information appropriate to patient's communicative problems, observe accurately and respond to both verbal and non-verbal patient communications.  Interaction with patients/parents must be devoid of emotional response or personal attitude.

LICENSE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • Current valid license in audiology from California Board of Medical Quality Assurance, Speech Pathology and Audiology Examining Committee.
  • Certification of Clinical Competency from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association and/or member of The American Academy of Audiology preferred.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 ESSENTIAL (not modifiable)

  • Provides audiological services, screening, diagnostic, (re)habilitation.
  • Provides all services related to hearing aids, including, but not limited to, hearing aid evaluations, counseling patients and families regarding results of evaluations, hearing aid counseling, electroacoustic and real ear testing of hearing aids, trouble-shooting hearing aid failure, adjusting hearing aids, setting programmable instruments and the hardware/software related to them, earmold impressions and modifications of earmolds.
  • Provides services to patients of all ages, from birth to extreme age, including, but not limited to, hearing screening in the Intensive Care Nursery, auditory brainstem evaluation of the pediatric population, otoacoustic emissions testing and other age-specific/functional-specific procedures.
  • Consults with physicians, teachers, parents and others about results & recommendations.
  • Prepares formal written reports for physicians and other referral sources.
  • Responds to community requests for information related to hearing, hearing loss and services offered.
  • Attends staff meetings.
  • Provides information to Coordinator about unusual patient contacts.
  • Exchanges information with other staff regarding mutual patients.
  • Responds to convalescent, rehabilitation & acute hospitals for Out of Office visits requested.
  • Provides 5 hours of billable patient contact per day. 

SECONDARY (modifiable)

  • Provides in-service information to hospital staff, groups who have contact with communicatively impaired and groups regarding communicative disorders.
  • Provides information and professional support for the hospital's implementation of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • Participates in department related community relations activities.
  • Completes daily check of test equipment, listening devices.
  • Performs Clerical/Reception duties as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The compensation for this role listed on this posting is in compliance with applicable law.  The selected candidate’s compensation will be determined based on the individual’s skills, experience, internal/market equity factors, and qualifications.  This posted minimum and maximum range represents the minimum and maximum of what we reasonably expect to compensate for the position.  Furthermore, all compensation decisions are ultimately determined in accordance with our compensation philosophy.  Compensation for positions covered by collective bargaining agreements are governed by the agreements in the aforementioned document.
