Position Title: Assistant Manager - Consultation and Reference Laboratory

Reporting to the Consultation & Reference Manager, position is responsible for overseeing operations assisting with management of the Consultation & Reference Laboratory including supervision of staff, maintenance of all policies, procedures and quality control practices and the maintenance of effective customer and inter-and intradepartmental relations.

This role is great for those who work with precision, are inquisitive, have a knack for quality and takes pride in delivering quality service to community partners and patients.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Oversee daily operations of laboratory and ensure efficiency and compliance.
  • Ensure strategic and operational objectives are met.
  • Assists with the preparation and monitoring of the annual budget for C&R Laboratory to ensure proper departmental financial control.
  • Continually monitor performance of subordinate staff to facilitate open communication, clarity of expectations, retention of staff and attainment of goals.
  • Assists with compilation, review and reporting monthly laboratory operation statistics.
  • Communicate with Medical Director as needed and serve as liaison between laboratory and other departments.
  • Collaborates in preparing for internal and external Blood Center assessments.
  • Participates in the development and revision process of department SOPs, forms, abstracts, articles and technical papers.
  • Enforces The Blood Center's policies on EEO, Affirmative Action and Safety/Health.

 

We need someone who has:

  • SBB Certification from ASCP. 
  • Minimum of 6 years of recent (within past 2 years) blood banking and 3 years of Immunohematology Reference Lab experience. 
  • Must have strong leadership and workflow process acumen. Must demonstrate successful management experience of at least 2 years. 

DIPLOMA OR TRANSCRIPT MUST BE PROVIDED AND KEPT IN PERSONNEL FILE FOR EMPLOYEES PERFORMING MODERATE OR HIGH COMPLEXITY TESTING

Job duties involve an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood with a risk of exposure to Hepatitis and HIV.
