General Summary: 

The EMG Technologist is responsible for performing Nerve Conduction Studies in an EMG lab according to the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM) and the Clinical Neurophysiology Lab standards, ensuring patient safety and delivering high-quality neurodiagnostic testing.  Responsibilities include patient safety and providing high quality neurodiagnostic testing. Candidate will need to be proficient in electrode placement for nerve conduction studies and perform these studies on the median, ulnar, radial, peroneal, tibial, sural nerves etc. by applying the appropriate stimulus and recording responses; able to interpret the waveforms, efficiently adjusts all necessary parameters to obtain comprehensive results; collect and record data and report to attending physicians the preliminary findings. Work collaboratively and contribute with other technicians, MDs, Mas and staff.  Additional responsibilities include maintaining, calibrating and troubleshooting equipment and maintaining the EMG orders and scheduling.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:  

  • The EMG Technician assists physicians performing EMGs and supports patients undergoing EMGs.
  • The EMG Technician is responsible for patient scheduling, preparation, and intraprocedural support, assisting the physician during the performance of the EMG,   appropriate procedural documentation and maintenance of supplies and equipment related to EMG performance.
  • Identify and implement appropriate Neurodiagnostic procedures for diverse patient populations
  • Promote compliance and support for the department at Marin Health
  • Deliver direct patient care to patients of all ages
  • Ensure patient satisfaction by adhering to Marin Health procedures, ABRET/ACNS Guidelines, and regulations
  • Exercise independent judgment in interdisciplinary patient care contexts
  • Prioritize and evaluate clinical situations using abstract thought
  • Participate in patient and staff education
  • Assist with scheduling, ordering supplies, and maintaining the schedule
  • Demonstrate leadership skills and accountability for own practices
  • Perform bedside electroencephalographs
  • Coordinate day-to-day operations of the service, including:
  • Working independently and alerting Neurology as needed
  • Maintaining examination logs
  • Filing and retrieving charts
  • Ordering supplies
  • Enter and reconcile charges on a daily basis
  • Review and update department policies as needed

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate required.

License & Certifications:

  • Certification as an EMG Tech
  • BLS Certification (American Heart Association) required.

Experience

  •  1-2 years of experience in a healthcare field interacting with patients and physicians

The compensation for this role listed on this posting is in compliance with applicable law.  The selected candidate’s compensation will be determined based on the individual’s skills, experience, internal/market equity factors, and qualifications.  This posted minimum and maximum range represents the minimum and maximum of what we reasonably expect to compensate for the position.  Furthermore, all compensation decisions are ultimately determined in accordance with our compensation philosophy.  Compensation for positions covered by collective bargaining agreements are governed by the agreements in the aforementioned document.
