Position: Public Health Nurse Supervisor


Barry-Eaton District Health Department is seeking a full-time Public Health Nurse Supervisor. This role is pivotal in providing leadership and day-to-day supervision within the Personal and Community Health Division. The successful candidate will design and manage services specifically for Communicable Disease and HIV/STI programs. This position is based out of our Charlotte, MI office.

In the Public Health Nurse Supervisor role, you will have the opportunity to:

  1. Identify needs for: new programs, program content, budgets, range of services available, and the goals/objectives of services.
  2. Make recommendations on division operations to implement new programs or modify existing ones to provide and improve services to the district.
  3. Supervise, hire, assign work, train, evaluate performance, provide feedback, and effectively resolves employee relations matters in division operations.
  4.  Assign employee work and schedule in a cost-effective manner; monitor and analyze employee productivity; ensure compliance with established productivity standards and accreditation guidelines.
  5. Review high risk cases, interpret rules and regulations, and provide training and guidance to the team; Ensure a high quality of professional service, maintain health standards, and monitor performance in relation to goals and objectives.
  6. Participate in general and programmatic policy and procedure development and implementation. Explain and clarify policies and procedures to employees and the community.
  7. Partner with management and coordinate the delivery of services from various community agencies.
  8. Evaluate programs on conformance to the goals/objectives of the department and compliance with requirements set by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Service, Michigan Communicable Disease Rules, and the Michigan Public Health Code; Communicate regulatory requirement changes to employees.
  9. Conduct evaluations and maintains proper documentation for services rendered, as required by the State of Michigan and other funding agencies for the division; Reviews activity reports and health records prepared by employees; Monitors and directs quality assurance activities.
  10. Understand and employ quality improvement concepts, principles and practices to program management. 

Ideal candidates will possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing
  • Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Michigan
  • 2 years of experience in infection control, immunizations, or nurse case management and/or
  • 2 years of supervisory experience
  • 2 years of experience in a public health setting, preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to think logically, and problem solve
  • Ability to travel for business using personal transportation
