Position: Environmental Health Supervisor Charlotte, MI or Hastings, MI
Barry-Eaton District Health Department (BEDHD) is seeking an Environmental Health Supervisor to manage programs and projects related to Environmental Health Services, Water Supply Quality & Safety, Recreational Facility Safety and Food Service Sanitation.
This position will work from both our Eaton (Charlotte, MI) and Barry (Hastings, MI) county locations. In this role you will protect and enhance health by promoting and providing environmental health programs pertaining to public health.
The primary responsibilities of this position include:
· Supervise, coordinate, and support the work of Environmental Health staff.
· Evaluate Environmental Health programs through ongoing assessments; recommend and implement improvements to programs, procedures, and materials to enhance service delivery and maintain accreditation.
· Develop, establish, and implement environmental health policies, procedures, and program guidance to ensure consistent compliance with program requirements and regulatory standards.
· Interpret, apply, and enforce local, state, and federal environmental health laws, regulations, standards, and county sanitation codes to protect public health.
· Provide technical assistance, consultation, and guidance to staff, industry representatives, the general public, and government agencies regarding environmental health requirements and enforcement.
· Oversee the review and approval of proposed water supply and sewage disposal projects, including subdivision plats; provide program oversight for the Onsite Well and Wastewater Treatment System Program and the Non-Community Water Supply Program.
· Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, including BEDHD regulations, state criteria for onsite sewage disposal, the Michigan Safe Drinking Water Act, and the Michigan Water Well Construction and Pump Installation Code.
· Collaborate with public officials and community stakeholders to address environmental health concerns and identify opportunities for community improvements.
· Participate in and support training related to emerging environmental health issues and evolving regulatory requirements.
Ideal candidate will possess:
Registration as a Sanitarian in Michigan or REHS registration through the National Environmental Health Association or ability to obtain registration within one (1) year
Knowledge of principles and practices of Environmental Health
Ability to communicate visual observations and ideas concisely and in written reports
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a regulatory setting
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office: Word and Excel
Valid driver’s license and a vehicle for business use or other ability to travel throughout the District
