Job Summary

We are searching for a dynamic and creative individual to serve as the inaugural director of Caltech’s new AI Bootcamp Program in the Division of Engineering and Applied Science (EAS). The mission of the program is to ensure that every EAS researcher at Caltech has access to efficient training in the most up-to-date AI methods that they need to pursue their science and engineering research. 

The AI Bootcamp Director will survey the needs of EAS scientists and engineers, organize bootcamps experimenting with different formats (topics, number of days, bring-your-data, etc.) and organization styles (faculty speakers, graduate student tutorials, hands-on teaching, project-driven learning), and partner with tech companies who are developing AI tools to organize hands-on instruction. The Director will also develop and offer training sessions in their own areas of expertise. This is an opportunity for a curious and highly self-motivated individual to contribute to the Caltech educational and research mission.

Essential Job Duties

Reporting to the head of the CMS Department, the AI Bootcamp Director will be responsible for establishing and implementing a unique program in EAS at Caltech. A small steering committee, composed of Caltech faculty, will help the Director reach the target audiences and develop a one-of-a-kind program that is aimed at allowing EAS’s scientific and engineering researchers to stand apart in the depth and sophistication they use in applying AI to their research endeavors.

  • Understand the needs of EAS researchers through formal and informal survey methods in order to develop and organize bootcamps of varying formats and duration.
  • Teach, hire, train, and manage other instructors; partner with tech companies who are developing AI tools to organize hands-on instruction. 
  • Experiment with different formats (e.g., topics, number of days, bring-your-data, etc.) and organization styles (e.g., faculty speakers, graduate student tutorials, hands-on teaching, and project-driven learning) to achieve maximum impact.
  • Adopt the highest standards in diversity, equity and inclusion.

Basic Qualifications

  • MS in Computer Science or related field or higher.
  • Broad knowledge of AI methods (including Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Robotics, Natural Language Processing and related fields).
  • Demonstrated ability to apply AI methods (in industry or science).
  • Demonstrated ability and passion for teaching, and demonstrated leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Computer Science or related field.

Hiring Range

$149,000 - $194,400 Per Year

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

COVID-19 Vaccine Required for All Employees
