This position is responsible for daily operations at the Garland, TX Distribution Center including shipping, receiving and inventory control. The Assistant DC Manager will support the Distribution Center Manager in efforts to coordinate and direct the warehouse/distribution operations to achieve the goals and objectives of the corporation. This is performed through a balanced approach of safety, quality, cost, service, and people. These activities will either be performed personally or through subordinate supervisors. The Assistant DC Manager will act as the Distribution Center Manager in their absence.
Ensure that Distribution Associates are performing their duties in a safe manner and in a safe environment. Lead safety related activities (Safety Team, Department meetings, Audits/Tours) and ensure prompt follow-up on safety related issues to minimize Lost Time accidents. Ensure compliance with all DAP, OSHA, DOT, HAZMAT requirements and local, state, and federal regulations. Practice safe warehouse procedures, identify potential hazards, and recommend improvements to standard procedures. Maintain the warehouse in a neat, orderly, and efficient fashion and ensure all facility and power equipment is properly maintained and utilized safely in the manner consistent with its intended use.
Maintain warehouse staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees. Provide leadership, guidance, and developmental direction to associates. Provide performance feedback to department staff, as well as other associates through periodic performance review, staff meetings, training coordination and other activities deemed appropriate. Maintain a union free environment through effective communication and strong interpersonal skills. Maintain an open-door policy to address all work-related associate concerns and discuss issues involving personalities, work scheduling, communication between supervisors and performance issues. Work with HR on issues relating to associates.
Ensure product quality and integrity by managing the control, condition, and security of inventory including its proper storage, handling, and disposal through adherence to standard operating policies and procedures. Inspect physical condition of warehouse, equipment, and materials/product/inventory. Work with management team and associates to develop, coordinate, and enforce operational, program, and personnel policies and procedures when needed to prevent and address daily operational challenges that impact shipments to customers and operating efficiencies. Work with Corporate IT and suppliers to address issues relating warehouse software systems and equipment.
Continuously strive to improve our service level to our external and internal customers. Manage all inbound and outbound shipments, completing a daily review of shipping, receiving, replenishment, carrier, and delivery performance to ensure that customer orders are fulfilled on-time, accurate, and in-full. Identify key opportunities to leverage and improve processes affecting warehouse operations, define appropriate metrics, and lead process and system improvement initiatives.
Maintain efficient and cost-effective processes for picking, packing, and shipping of all customer orders. Drive operational excellence to save time, space, and resources, reduce picking mistakes and manual handling, and improve flexibility, speed, management, and communication.
