Northwest Farm Credit Services is in search of a Appraisal Operations Specialist to join our Appraisal Services in our Spokane, Washington Headquarters location. As a member-owned financial cooperative, we help business owners in agriculture, forestry and fisheries secure the financing they need to operate and grow, and the crop insurance they need to protect their livelihoods. Our customers are primarily located in Montana, Idaho, Oregon, Washington and Alaska. This full-time exempt position reports to the AVP-Appraisal Operations and manages the Appraisal Management System work queue, uses problem solving and critical thinking to handle escalations, provides training to colleagues as needed, and contributes to building vendor capacity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage Appraisal Management System orders 
    • Ensure quality and timely service, serving as a lead for appraisal ordering staff who are responsible for contracting vendor appraisers.
    • Select the appropriate contract vendor appraiser for assignment; solicit and monitor quotes on complex appraisal assignments.
    • Assign or handle basic contract vendor appraiser requests; handle and resolve escalated assignments on unique or complex requests
    • Provide updates to key stakeholders on the orders in process.
    • Monitor appraisal orders to ensure compliant fulfillment and delivery.
    • Process the receipt of appraisals and invoices.
    • Identify, order, and coordinate non-appraisal valuation options including valuation models and other valuation products
    • Coordinate with accounting on payment processing or refund issues.
    • Analyze average turn times to determine geographic areas on which to focus appraiser recruitment.
  • Monitor and contribute to the approved vendor list 
    • Monitor appraisers on the approved vendor list, in collaboration with the review appraiser, to ensure they meet established requirements (e.g. Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) and appropriate certifications).
    • Collaborate with Appraisal Vendor Specialist in developing relationships with contract appraisers to build vendor appraiser capacity for agriculture, commercial, and rural residential appraisers.
  • Training and communication 
    • Operate as a resource by providing training and demonstrations to internal staff in the flow of work, and coordinating department training needs and implementation with association’s learning and development department.
    • Effectively and accurately communicate procedures to the order desk team, and association appraisal requirements and standards to vendor appraisers and internal staff, both verbally and in writing.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Ag Econ, Ag Business, Accounting, Business Management or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Related and progressively responsible work experience within a financial institution or appraisal management company
  • Knowledge of banking laws and regulations
  • Familiarity with appraisal license requirements
  • Understanding of rural real estate markets.
  • Ability to travel: minimal
  • Valid driver’s license
