The Barry-Eaton District Health Department (BEDHD) is a nationally accredited public health service agency. We protect and improve the health of citizens in Barry and Eaton counties in mid-MI through education, promotion of healthy lifestyles, and implementation of effective policies and programs for individuals, families, businesses, and communities. We are seeking a PERSONAL AND COMMUNITY HEALTH DIRECTOR to lead and continuously improve our clinical and community health services. In this role, you will align and execute strategic objectives and operating strategies with state and federal requirements.

This position will work from both our Eaton (Charlotte, MI) and Barry (Hastings, MI) county locations and offers flexibility and a healthy work-life balance. BEDHD has recently been awarded new federal funding. The primary responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

* Identify and assess public health needs within the community and develop program priorities and procedures to meet those needs. 
* Create and monitor a large local health division budget. Adjust and reassess spending based on changes in the community’s needs.
* Coach, develop, mentor, train, and advise five supervisors and their teams for professional and career development. 
* Assure conformance with regulations and guidelines of state and federal agencies as well as alignment with policies and procedures. Recommend policy changes relative to maintaining conformance with programmatic requirements. 
* Develop grant applications and oversee their implementation. Monitor and report on contractual services.
* Oversee all reporting requirements for programs within the division including design, prepare, analyze, and present data-driven reports to the board.
* Represent the division at public and governmental bodies.  

Ideal candidate will possess:

* Master’s degree in public health, public administration, or a related field of study; OR a Bachelor’s degree in public health, public administration, or a related field of study combined with progressive leadership experience.

* 4+ years of experience managing healthcare programs and services; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

* Knowledge of the principles and practices of public health administration, the techniques of program planning, program development and program evaluation, and working knowledge of statistics and budget administration

* Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc., required. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel preferred

* Ability to travel throughout the district using a vehicle (personal or departmental) for business and a valid driver’s license
