Position: CLINIC ASSISTANT


Barry-Eaton District Health Department is seeking a full-time Clinic Assistant to provide clinical, administrative, and clerical support to ensure efficient public health operations within the district. This position will be based out of our Charlotte, MI office.

We are the nationally accredited public health service agency for Barry and Eaton counties in Michigan. In the Clinic Assistant role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Communicate in person, over the phone, and electronically, to answer questions and provide information on eligibility; assist in the completion of forms and applications.
  • Respond to client inquiries regarding health information and conduct referrals to providers.
  • Obtain and record health information such as client weights, measures, and test results in medical charts.
  • Complete basic client testing procedures and submit specimens to designated testing facilities.
  • Maintain and update client records using various electronic medical record databases and document information in internal and external systems.
  • Conduct quality control checks and tests on equipment, ensure equipment is in proper working order, and sterilize and disinfect laboratory equipment.
  • Set up the exam room, gather supplies and materials, and maintain sterilized exam equipment.
  • Aid and advocate in resolution between clients and service providers.
  • Provide program outreach by attending community events and distributing program materials.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies, forms, pamphlets, and informational educational brochures related to programs and services.

Ideal candidates will possess:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Medical Assistant Certification or equivalent knowledge and experience, preferred
  • One (1) year of experience in a clinic or lab setting, preferred
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to operate testing, diagnostic, and lab equipment
  • Ability to manage multi-line phone system and emails
  • Basic knowledge in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact in a positive and professional manner
  • Ability to travel for business using personal transportation
