Position: Director of Research

The American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) is seeking a Director of Research in East Lansing, MI. The Director of Research will build a new research group within ABEM; and will analyze activities and topics that inform Emergency Medicine (EM) certification programs, the EM specialty, and the EM community. The Director of Research reports to the Executive Director.

Among the responsibilities of this position are to:

  • Develop strategy and conduct research at ABEM
  • Lead analysis of activities and topics that inform Emergency Medicine (EM) certification programs, the EM specialty, and the EM community
  • Collaborate with external researchers and organizations
  • Lead and manage study design, Institutional Review Board approvals, data acquisition, data analysis, manuscript preparation, and manuscript submission
  • Lead internal research group to advance ABEM research

The ideal candidates will possess:

  • A Ph.D. in health services research, public health, assessment and evaluation, psychometrics, statistics or other research-related field
  • At least five years of related experience conducting research
  • A consistent track record of peer-reviewed journal publications
  • A record of presentations at national or international conferences in support of research agenda
  • Experience extracting, managing, and analyzing data;
  • Working with large data sets (e.g., medical claims data) preferred
  • Experience managing a research budget
