Executive Director in Lansing, MI

If this describes you, the Michigan Association for Local Public Health located in Lansing, Michigan is looking for an Executive Director to work with the Board to execute on the strategic plans of the organization and to oversee government relations and advocacy efforts on behalf of the association members.

 

The Michigan Association for Local Public Health (MALPH) was founded in 1985 as a private, non-profit 501-C3 state association. The Association is organized to represent Michigan’s 45 city, county, and district health departments before legislative and executive branches of state and federal government.

 

The Executive Director responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Participates with the Board in the development and implementation of the organization’s strategic plan.
  • Serves as the primary liaison between the Board of Directors, legislature, governmental entities, administration, partners, and media outlets.
  • Participates in legislative and regulatory meetings and hearings on behalf of the association.
  • Leads advocacy initiatives, utilizing outside lobbying assistance as needed.
  • Maintains relationships with governmental agencies, elected officials, key stakeholders, and local and national organizations with complementary missions and policy objectives.
  • Serves as a spokesperson for MALPH.
  • Fosters a collaborative relationship with higher education public health programs at Michigan universities.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Master’s preferred.
  • 7-10 years of related experience including experience with strategic planning, organizational leadership, public health, and working with a Board of Directors.
  • Experience in government relations, legislative processes, and advocacy efforts required.
  • Proven experience as an executive director or in other leadership positions.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
