Description

Duties: Essential responsibilities and duties may include, but not limited to the following: Manage and participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies  and priorities for assigned programs, including streets, bridges, traffic signals and signs, construction and resurfacing projects, contract specifications and pavement management systems; recommend, within departmental policy, appropriate service and staffing levels; recommend and administer policies and procedure; plan, direct, coordinate, and review the work plan for the Streets, Bridges, Drainage and Traffic Divisions; meet with staff products, methods and procedures; oversee the development of the Pavement Management Systems; prepare contract specifications for contracted engineering sources; serve as a liaison for the Streets, Bridges, Drainage and Traffic Divisions with other city department, divisions and outside agencies; negotiate and resolve significant and controversial issues; provide responsible staff assistance to the Public Work Director; conduct field work including site reviews of various programs and projects; provide direction to work crews; ensure compliance with work specifications; attend City Council, community, neighborhood,public, division and department meeting to discuss ongoing and future projects; participate or provide staff support to a variety of boards and commissions; attend and participate in professional group meeting; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of infrastructure; perform other duties assigned.

 

Qualifications: Eight years of increasingly responsible experience in civil engineering, including five years of administrative or supervisory responsibility; equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college preferably with a major course work in civil engineering or a related field. Must possess a valid Driver's License.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT FOR CITY EMPLOYEES:

Within six (6) months from date of employment, must establish residence within the City of Jackson.

PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT, APPLICANT RECOMMENDED FOR EMPLOYMENT SHALL BE REQUIRED TO SUCCESSFULLY PASS A URINALYSIS AND/OR BLOOD TEST TO SCREEN FOR ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUG ABUSE.
