Street Maintenance Supervisor

DUTIES: Ability to plan, prioritize, assign, supervise and review the work of staff that is responsible for providing street maintenance, repair and construction services to the City. Collect and document street repairs, maintain records and files of work performed; prepare various reports on operations and activities. Participate in the preparation and administration of the street maintenance budget; submit budget recommendations; monitor expenditures. Maintain accurate records of attendance, work performed, time required for each job and materials and equipment used. Ability to operate various heavy equipment. Fill in when work crews are short staffed; operate equipment including paving roller, pothole patcher, motor graders, backhoes, box tractors, street sweepers, dump trucks and other related equipment. May work evenings or weekends as staffing shortage or emergencies dictate. Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of the operations, services and activities of street maintenance programs, knowledge of the principles and practices of street construction and maintenance. Three (3) years of responsible experience working in street maintenance, repair and construction including one year of lead responsibility. Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade. Minimum of at least two years of experience comparable to that of a Crew Leader in the City of Jackson. Possession of a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT FOR CITY EMPLOYEES: Within six (6) months from date of employment, must establish residence in the City of Jackson.
PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT, APPLICANT RECOMMENDED FOR EMPLOYMENT SHALL BE REQUIRED TO SUCCESSFULLY PASS A URINALYSIS AND/OR BLOOD TEST TO SCREEN FOR ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUG ABUSE.
