Heavy Equipment Operator I

|Work Hours:||7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.|
DUTIES: Clean and unstop sewer lines; locate and excavate sewer lines; backfill jobs upon completion. Construct and rebuild manholes; report sewage overflows to immediate supervisor. Perform a variety of semi-skilled maintenance work. Operate assigned heavy power driven equipment. Learn the location of various streets and roadways within the City. Willing to work evening and weekend shifts as required by staffing shortages, emergencies, and weekend shift assignments. Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: One (1) to two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience performing maintenance work involving the operation of construction equipment; equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade supplemented by training in construction and equipment operation; must possess a Class A Commercial license and DOT Medical Certification to be considered; tanker’s endorsement a plus.
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT FOR CITY EMPLOYEES: Within six (6) months from date of employment, must establish residence within the City of Jackson.
PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT, APPLICANT RECOMMENDED FOR EMPLOYMENT SHALL BE REQUIRED TO SUCCESSFULLY PASS A URINALYSIS AND/OR BLOOD TEST TO SCREEN FOR ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUG ABUSE.
