Job Overview:

This role involves working within a skilled inter-professional team to assess, manage, and treat individuals primarily with traumatic brain injuries and musculoskeletal conditions. The focus is on utilizing neurological and musculoskeletal expertise to provide effective care.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough evaluations and treatment of patients in accordance with established regulatory standards.
  • Provide comprehensive education, training, and guidance to patients, families/caregivers, and inter-professional teams.
  • Collaborate with staff at all levels and participate in inter-professional rounds, demonstrating flexibility in working variable hours as required.
  • Engage in discharge planning and establish collaborative partnerships with community stakeholders.
  • Ensure timely and meticulous clinical documentation, adhering to organizational guidelines.
  • Assume responsibility for clinical workload requirements while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Supervise rehabilitation assistants in the proficient delivery of occupational therapy services.
  • Be available for on-demand occupational therapy coverage throughout the facility.
  • Participate in weekend on-call rotation for supervision of rehabilitation assistants.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional development, including active involvement in the O.T. Professional Standards & Issues Committee and relevant in-service education.
  • Contribute insights to service planning and the advancement of occupational therapy practice.
  • Participate in team and organization-wide committees, adding value through your expertise.
  • Play an integral role in revenue-generating services, enhancing our offerings to the community.
  • Engage in the clinical evaluation of equipment and protocols to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Support student education activities, including preceptorship, labs, and tutorials, as required.

Key Qualifications: 

  • Master of Science (MSc) in Occupational Therapy or an equivalent degree from a recognized institution.
  • Current and valid registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario.
  • Preferred membership with the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapy and/or Ontario Society of Occupational Therapists, showcasing commitment to professional networks.
  • Proficiency in the Functional Independent Measure (FIM) certification exam, achieving a minimum score of 80%, within the probationary period.
  • Recertification at this level is required for candidates applying to work in specialized rehabilitation units such as: Musculoskeletal, Amputee, Neurological, Tuberculosis and Respiratory Rehabilitation.
  • Preferred status as an Assistive Devices Program Authorizer for Wheelchairs & Mobility Devices, demonstrating expertise in this area.
  • 1-2 years of relevant clinical experience, highlighting a strong foundation in Occupational Therapy practice.
