Job Overview:

As a Registered Nurse (RN) Float within our Staff Resource Team, you will have a dynamic and challenging role that involves providing essential nursing care and support across various nursing units within our healthcare facility. The RN Float is a critical member of our healthcare team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care and contributing to the smooth and efficient operation of our institution. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain experience in a variety of clinical areas and develop a wide range of skills. 

Accountabilities:

As a Registered Nurse Float within our Staff Resource Team, your key accountabilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing high-quality nursing care to patients across different units, following established policies and procedures.
  • Adapting to various clinical environments, working with diverse patient populations, and delivering patient-centered care.
  • Assessing and monitoring patient conditions, administering medications, and providing treatments as required.
  • Collaborating with healthcare professionals to ensure the comprehensive and holistic care of patients.
  • Maintaining accurate and complete patient records in the Electronic Patient Record system.
  • Demonstrating flexibility, adaptability, and a positive attitude while handling challenging and rapidly changing situations.
  • Participating in continuing professional development and training to enhance clinical and leadership skills.
  • Promoting a culture of safety and quality care, adhering to all relevant standards of practice and regulations.
  • Demonstrating a strong commitment to team success and effective communication within the interdisciplinary team.

Qualifications:

To be considered for the position of Registered Nurse Float in our Staff Resource Team, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing from an approved nursing program preferred.
  • Current membership in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (BCLS) for registered nurses employed on specific nursing units.
  • Ability to adapt to and work effectively on multiple nursing units, including but not limited to specialty units (e.g., neurology, respiratory, amputee, musculoskeletal, long-term mechanical ventilation), and more.
  • Ability to achieve 80% on the Functional Independent Measure (FIM) certification exam within the probationary or familiarization period and on recertification exams, if applying to work on specific rehabilitation units (3EA, 3EB, 3EC, 2EB, 2WF).
  • Recent related clinical experience preferred.
  • Experience with PICC Lines and VAC therapy is an asset.
  • Excellent clinical skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong leadership skills, including effective management of challenging interpersonal situations.
  • Effective communication, both written and verbal, and the ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Computer literacy, including proficiency in Electronic Patient Record (EPR) systems.
