Job Overview:

West Park Healthcare Centre is seeking an experienced supervisor to oversee the cleaning program and assist with preparing the new state of the art hospital.  

Accountabilities:

  • Under the direction of the Manager of Environmental Services, oversee cleaning and general maintenance activities during the evening and assigned weekend shifts.
  • Coordinate and monitor planned work in accordance with schedules and work routines to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.
  • Participate in coaching related to performance in accordance with provisions of the collective agreement.
  • Reassign staff when necessary to align with Centre priorities in coordination with Infection Prevention & Control and clinical leaders.
  • Ensure cleaning program is adhering to PIDAC standards and patient unit requirements.
  • Monitor efficacy of the cleaning program through periodic audits in collaboration with Infection Prevention & Control and Service Managers.
  • Conduct follow up training as necessary to ensure cleaning staff are meeting all required standards of practice.
  • Ensure a safe work environment through consistent application of safe work practices including but not limited to fire safety training, emergency response procedures, WHIMIS, proper use of PPE, hand hygiene, and infection control best practices for environmental cleaning.
  • Supervise work conducted by contractors/service providers ensuring patient privacy and proper procedures for infection prevention and control are followed at all times.
  • Conduct training for staff on proper cleaning practice, safe and effective use of equipment and other topics as required.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and effectively communicate with manager on routine basis.
  • Monitor compliance and dialogue with staff regarding the prevention and identification of safety policies, standards and issues.
  • Where applicable, ensure the compliance and awareness of patient safety.
  • Maintain compliance with the safety standards of the hospital and applicable legislation.
  • Revise assignments to offset absences of employees due to illness, vacation leave, education or other developments resulting in a shortage.
  • Contribute to quality performance through the provision of in-service training, observance of infection control procedures (following PIDAC standards), and evaluation and assessment of employees.
  • Contribute to the development of environmental or sustainability administrative documents; such as policies and procedures.
  • Under direction of Manager of Environmental Services monitor salaries and supplies budgets in accordance with Centre’s procurement policies.
  • Participate in Campus Development planning meetings and follow up as required; participate in operational readiness activities to ensure that Environmental Services can be delivered safely and efficiently in the new Hospital.
  • Attend continuing education seminars and courses relating to Environmental Services and/or leadership.

Qualifications:

  • Degree/Diploma in environmental services management or hospitality services or related field
  • Minimum 3 years’ supervisory level experience within environmental services program in a healthcare facility of comparable size
  • Expertise in environmental services and hospitality services within Complex Continuing Care & Rehabilitation Services
  • Knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) best practices as they relate to the environmental services program
  • Familiarity of Provincial Infectious Diseases Advisory Committee (PIDAC) standards
  • Experience conducting environmental audits and providing positive and constructive feedback to team members
  • Capability of organizing, facilitating and tracking team meetings and education
  • Offers effective coaching skills and ongoing support to team
  • Experience planning and overseeing project work such as, but not limited to; floor care and enhanced project cleaning
  • Inspiring team leader with the ability to collaborate with a diverse team in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent intrapersonal skills, punctual with a good attendance record
  • Experience with redevelopment / construction project planning; post construction occupancy planning; transition planning in relation to the environmental services including waste and linen management
  • Understanding of Workplace Hazards  and the ability to independently identify and resolve situations that could compromise the safety or well-being of patients, residents, students, employees, volunteers, physicians and visitors
  • A current membership with Ontario Healthcare Housekeepers’ Association (OHHA) and/or the Canadian Association of Environmental Management (CAEM) would be an asset
  • Evidence of satisfactory attendance record
  • An employee’s disciplinary record will be reviewed as part of the assessment of qualifications
  • Ability to work in a manner that exemplifies the Centre’s core values and helps patients get their life back
  • Should be aware of conditions and measures that may affect the safety of patients, residents, students, employees, volunteers, physicians and visitors
