Job Overview:

Provide reception/clerk function for patients and act as a key communicator with patients, families, physicians, clinicians and other related departments/services scheduling appointments for diagnostic testing and physician consultation as well as preparation and coordination of TB and Respiratory Clinics.

Accountabilities:  

  • Provide reception duties and other clinic support to the Respirologist, Nurse Practitioner and/or team members while being sensitive to the needs of a multicultural patient population that often speaks no or limited English
  • Coordinate, schedule and confirm appointments with patients and enter all TB and Respiratory Clinic appointments including all laboratory testing into EPR
  • Set-up, maintain and file all TB & Respiratory Clinic patient charts
  • Maintain TB Clinic visit statistics and workloads (TB vs Respiratory).
  • Perform other unit clerk duties as assigned including answering phones, photocopying, ordering clinic supplies, if not in contradiction with job purpose
  • Be aware of conditions and measures that may affect the safety of patients, residents, students, employees, volunteers, physicians and visitors including:
    • Compliance with the safety standards of the Centre and applicable legislation.
    • Identification and prevention of safety issues and problems.
    • Taking corrective action, where possible.
    • Attendance at safety meetings/training/updates in accordance with Centre’s standards
  • Ability to work in a manner that exemplifies the core values of West Park Healthcare Centre: Excellence, Respect, Trust, Collaboration, and Accountability.
  • Evidence of good performance history and attendance record

Key Qualifications: 

  • Preferred completion of a Medical terminology course & Certificate in Medical transcription
  • Minimum High school Diploma required and Completion of a medical terminology course
  • Experience in a health care setting
  • Required Minimum 2 years office experience
  • Good interpersonal, organizational and communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Required Basic Microsoft Office Skills
  • Ability to work independently without supervision
  • Ability to prioritize workload within a multi-task environment with multiple demands
  • Evidence of satisfactory attendance and punctuality
  • Preferred knowledge of Electronic Patient Record
