West Park Healthcare Centre helps patients get their lives back by through the provision of specialized rehabilitation and complex continuing care services and a continuum of inpatient, outpatient and outreach care and treatment. West Park’s 27-acre site is being transformed into an integrated campus of care, including a new hospital and additional community based services focused on seniors and people living with disabilities.

Job Overview:

Working in collaboration with program staff, the unit support assistant is responsible for performing a variety of routine task related to the support of the inpatient units, while helping to contribute to excellent patient care.

Accountabilities:

  • Daily stocking and organizing of the patient supply cupboards
  • Daily patient water jug assembly and delivery
  • Assisting patient transport to/from dining room and setting patients up for meals; removal of patient trays
  • Assisting to maintain a safe, tidy and organized patient care environment which could include but is not limited to:
    • Tying of soiled linen bags for removal by Environmental Service Assistants
    • Assisting with patient bed-making
    • Assisting with patient bed moves
    • Setting up/re-stocking isolation precautions (linen hampers, cart, waste container, isolation linen)
    • Assisting with emptying out-patient rooms upon patient discharge
    • Performing regular safety checks on patient room (i.e. check of bed alarms, ensure room free of trip hazards)
    • Unit safety audits and hand hygiene audits
    • Cleaning of soiled therapeutic equipment in between patient use
  • Be aware of conditions and measures that may affect the safety of patients, residents, students, employees, volunteers, physicians and visitors including:
    • Compliance with the safety standards of the hospital and applicable legislation
    • Identification and prevention of safety issues and problems
    • Taking corrective action, where possible
    • Attendance at safety meetings/training/updates in accordance with the Centre’s standards
  • Ability to work in a manner that exemplifies the core values of West Park:  Excellence, Respect, Trust, Collaboration and Accountability
  • Evidence of good performance history and attendance record

Qualifications:

  • Minimum High School (Gr. 12) diploma required
  • Ability to work effectively within a team setting and with minimal supervision
  • Excellent customer service
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to speak, read, write and comprehend the English language well
  • Basic mathematical skills
  • Physical stamina to meet work demands of the environment
  • Available to work every other weekend
  • Available all shifts, all days
  • Ability to work in a manner that exemplifies the Centre’s core values and helps patients get their life back
  • Should be aware of conditions and measures that may affect the safety of patients, residents, students, employees, volunteers, physicians and visitors
