Job Overview:

As a member of the Transportation team, the transporter/porter is primarily responsible for providing good customer service while transporting patients, specimens, supplies and materials as assigned by the OTRS system and supervisor. As well as maintain and conduct inspections of Centre owned Mobility Equipment.

Accountabilities:

  • Ability to work in a manner that exemplifies the Centre’s core values and helps patients get their life back
  • Responsible for the transporting of patients as noted:
    • Patient transfers from beds to wheelchairs/stretchers or exam tables are not to be done by porters. 
    • Porters may assist as a second person once Centre training is completed.
  • Ensures right patient being transported by reading patient identification band
  • Move patients from requested location to the following locations:
    • Patient room transfer assistance
    • DI
    • Outpatient Clinic
    • Patient entrance upon discharge
    • Patient transfer to morgue
  • Responsible for the pick-up and delivery of materials noted:
    • Laboratory specimens
    • Patient charts
    • MDRD equipment (Clean and soiled)
    • Mobility aids (Clean and soiled)
    • Biomed equipment
    • Linen (Clean)
  • Maintain a complete record of mobility aids inventory, transfer and repair-related information
  • Send and receive courier packages and other small deliveries utilizing online system.
  • Minor repair and adjustments of hospital owned Mobility aids
  • Terminal cleaning and sanitizing of hospital owned Mobility aids as per assigned schedule and or discharge.
  • Be aware of conditions and measures that may affect the safety of patients, residents, students, employees, volunteers, physicians and visitors including:
    • Compliance with the safety standards of the hospital and applicable legislation
    • Identification and prevention of safety issues and problems
    • Taking corrective action, where possible
    • Attendance at safety meetings/training/updates in accordance with the Centre’s standards
    • Able to perform other duties as assigned within above listed components

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent 
  • Able to read and write English
